Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades After Leading Abusive Chants About Coach Chris Wilder
The striker has joined the Championship side just seven months after instigating insulting songs aimed at the team's coach, Wilder.
The 32-year-old striker, a free agent after departing from Leeds, has put pen to paper on a contract with the second-tier club in difficulty through the winter. Bamford's seven-year spell at Elland Road finished amicably in August.
One of the player's final notable acts while at Leeds was to lead insulting chants regarding Chris Wilder amid the club’s promotion party this spring. Currently, the former England player is set to play under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to lift his beloved club out of the drop zone.
Previous Conflict Between the Striker & the Manager
The pair had previous conflict before Leeds moved up back to the Premier League last season while Sheffield United were defeated in the playoff final by Sunderland. Wilder described the forward as “a muppet” when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and the Blades secured direct promotion whereas Leeds missed out in the playoffs.
Reconciliation & Looking Ahead
Everything seems to have been put behind them with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of improvement up front while Bamford looking to revive his playing days.
The song about Wilder spread widely this spring. An apologetic Patrick along with Leeds boss, Farke, called Wilder the following day.
Chris Wilder stated back then: “Spoke with Patrick recently and I’ve no problem at all with that. I’m not sure regarding the words used from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and admired him giving me a call.
“We had a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel Farke too and we had a longer discussion with him and he is a super guy, a class act. When I was playing we used to give it and accept it and that is part and parcel of the game at every level, including Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I said that to Pat.”
Latest Career Struggles
The forward made 18 appearances for Leeds last season however the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC and Boro player has faced difficulties with injury in recent years.
